So after my mysterious, cryptic post on Facebook some couple of months ago, I've finally have an opportunity to put it down in writing. The message was: "Has been envision a really cool epic cosplay photo shoot that will most likely involve many cosplayers... Details to come..." Many had wondered what series that would be, but ~KurisuchieKitty, the evil genius she is, figured it out: Soul Eater.

What inspired this is the amazing (and EPIC) work that =shiroin and =songster69 have been putting out. I also wanted to do something different and interesting, challenge myself creatively.

The Plan

We want to take a series of movie poster inspired shots of individuals, partners, and the entire group as if Soul Eater was being made into a live action/comedy movie. This project is designed to push us photographers to a new creative level and perhaps offer any interested cosplayers a chance to design and manufacture really cool costumes for themselves and get some cool pictures in the process.

Consider this a general casting call to any cosplayers who are interested in the Soul Eater Anime or magna series. This will be a 6-month long (or as long as it needs to be) project. The actual photo shoot itself will probably take a couple of days, but the planning, casting, location scouting will take the majority of the time, plus the extra time will allow any cosplayers the opportunity to really make (or further modify) their costume.

The Requirements

• Time. We may occasionally want to meet once a month to discuss the progress of the costumes, discuss potential shoot locations, and develop shooting angles.


• Dedication. The make-or-break for an epic photo shoot is the dedication of the participants. We're not looking for some people who will just spend 10-15 minutes to throw together something. We're looking for cosplayers who are looking to "own" the character they wish to cosplay as, meaning if someone was to see you in the costume, they would truly see the character you represent.


• Character(s). These are the core characters I would love to have: Soul, Maka, Shinigami, Death the Kid, the Thompson Sisters, Black Star, Tsubaki, Dr. Fraken Stein, Blair, Arachne, Medusa, Asura and Justin Law. If I didn't mention a character that would interest you, send me a message, email, or leave a comment. We're open to other characters, but these specifically are the ones we're looking for, but willing to add more or substitute based on demand, dedication, and execution on the part of the interested cosplayer.


• Attention to detail. This is very similar to dedication, but I figured it would be important to spell it out, but the costumes have to be very detailed, right down to the button and correct color of seam. Reason being is that we love to take very detailed photos of props or close-ups. And yes, I want to be able to do the "Shinigami Chop", so whoever wants to do Shinigami, will have to create a couple sets of hands.


• Progress Updates. Everyone is busy, but occasionally we would like to see pictures of the progress to see how it's coming together and how it will fit into the bog picture.


• Knowledge of the series. We expect more than just a glancing knowledge of the series. You need to know your character's motivations and feelings. Remember, it's by enough just making the costume, you have to "own" the character.


• Creative Input. This is as much your shoot as it is our shoot and we'll be looking to you for creative inspiration also. Don't be afraid to share and offer pose, location, or lighting suggestions.


• There may be other requirements and I'll update this as we can think
  of others.

The Exchange

In exchange for your valuable time, we will provide you with the high-resolution images for your unlimited personal use; this is what is commonly referred to as TFCD (trade for CD). But in an effort to be more green, I am now providing download links rather than a physical CD. There is no limitation to how many photos we will be taking and you will be provided all the best ones.
